Finally have some video of the harpsichord I made

Getting this thing tuned properly and sounding half decent took an eternity, but it's finally playable and I found someone who can really play, too!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_owqRwpS5s if you're interested. There's some construction photos in there too.

Excellent work. How long did it take you to build it?

Very nice work, very nice indeed. Good video, too. How long start to finish? Was this commissioned or just a 'want to build' project?

LOL! Steve - we had the same thought. You must have posted while I was watching the video and I didn't refresh the page before hitting 'Post Quick Reply'.

Very well done.
Do the notes "sustain" as long as the keys are depressed?

This project took about 1 1/2 years start to finish. Several years ago I read an article in one of the Woodworking magazines about a dude who made harpsichords (I think it was this guy
), and it was always in the back of my mind as something I wanted to try.

Yes, the note is sustained as long as you hold they key down. When you release the key the jack falls down and a little felt damper lands on the string.

My wife just bought me a book on building your own ukulele. I guess maybe she likes it when I'm sequestered down in the shop!

I am lost in admiration for your skill and craftsmanship.
Somewhere, perhaps on discovery or a music channel, you could have a prog of your achievment.
Trust you at least got an article in the local press.
