Familiar with Wood Magazine?

Are people familiar with Wood Magazine? I don't think I've ever seen an issue, but they contacted me and want to publish a photo of one of my old pieces. I am wondering what people think of it, as a woodworking magazine.

I've only seen one issue. I bought one a few months ago to get a harbor freight coupon for a dust collector. From what I can see the magazine seems reputable.

+1 I also have been getting it for 8 years now. There are some very good articles and tips, some of which I have adopted. One was a box cutting jig with micro adjustment. Works fine.

I've gotten it for at least 7 years now. It is more amatuer friendly than most of the others IMO, and that's why I still get it.

They are pretty good as a magazine, they have been around for a good while.

one of the really "go to" WW magazines. been subscribing, and will be subscribing, for years.

there's a solution to every problem.....you just have to be willing to find it.

Wood magazine is IMO another informative USA publication which has many articles and ideas for more simpler (easier) wood projects. If that magazine is requesting "to publish a photo of one of your old pieces", be certain the publishers will agree to compensate you for it. Be safe.

I don't think so. They haven't mentioned anything about compensation, and I don't have any such expectations. Besides, pictures of this piece went viral awhile ago and it's in many places on the internet already.

Just looking at your website I can see why they want to use a picture of some of your work. I think it would good for you to have a picture of your work in their magazine. It would be a great selling tool.

Yeah just a name/number/email/website mention would be great.

And I buy WOOD mags regularly off the shelf. They dont always have things Im interested in in every issue, which is why I dont subscribe, but overall its a great magazine.

Good luck and congrats Mark.

Thanks, I don't expect it to bring in any work, that's for sure. People seem to have an exaggerated idea of how such things affect reality. But it's a gratifying ego stroke, I'll admit that. And I'm glad to hear the mag has at least some credibility amongst some woodworkers.

It's owned by Meredith Corp and published close to where I live in central Iowa. Good magazine and company....

BTW...The owner of Woodsmith worked there before he started up...He's based just down the street from Wood. Good Luck!

I am also a subscriber. It's like any other magazine, some issues are great and some not so great. I am very impressed with your work.

It’s a good magazine. I would give them the go ahead to use it.

I had a piece in a magazine years ago (my avatar) and it included step-by-step instructions to build it. They purchased the piece from me at my price and paid to ship it across the country. No other compensation from there. The article does look great in my portfolio and that’s what counts.
