Drying magnolia wood

Hi, can anyone tell me what percent magnolia wood need to be dried to before using? Is it the standard 4-6 percent or can it be higher? Anyone ever dried any? Wonder how long it will take.

Wood absorbs moisture from the air so depending on the environment in your area that may be hard to achieve. I buy only kiln dried lumber and none of mine is ever below 12%. Generally as a rule of thumb you should let wood dry a year for every inch thickness the wood is. It will dry a little faster standing on it's end.

*Update* So after a little research, I decided to construct a DIY Kiln in my garage. I used 2 inch insulation boards. I have 2 fans and a heater running and I rotate in a dehumidifier. Been running it since Dec. 1st and I have pulled roughly 5 gallons of water (give or take) out of (12) 8×12×2 slabs,(14) 8×12×1 boards. I will pull my 1st moister check this weekend.
