Dovetailed box sides
I have made a box with dovetailed sides, and being my first dovetails, they came out very good (Keller Jig).
However, I used 3/4” material and the box actually looks out of proportion. It is a small box ( 8 3/4”W x 11” L x 5 1/4” H) and I think that is why it looks odd.
Is there a way to run the sides thru my planer using a sled or longer pieces along with my short box sides. And if so, do I plane the outside of the box sides, or the insides.
The insides are already finished with shellac, but it wouldn’t bother me to have to refinish them. The grooves for the box bottom have not been cut yet.
Will the dovetails still look right and still fit properly if I plane the sides down to 5/8” or 1/2”?
Thanks for any guidance that you might offer.
