Craftsman Lathe Parts

Hi, I have an old, from the 1930's, Craftsman nine inch wood lathe - model 101.06242. In the distant past I turned quite a bit with my father, but when I went to reset it up I am missing the drive center. Does anyone have an idea on how or where to replace this part. The rest of the lathe is in great shape.

The drive center is a generic part, determine which Morse taper your spindle has and buy one to fit.

drive center

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me. Now for a follow-up question. I have a threaded tube coming out of the head stock. Where/how do I determine the Morse taper?

Guessing here- measure the ID of the opening in the threaded part and post it here. I'll measure mine and we can compare.
My dial calipers show a diameter at the opening on the spur drive to be just shy of 0.700. This is a #2 Morse taper. Others have any suggestions?

I have an old craftsman headstock on my lathe and the main shaft is threaded on the outside for a faceplate but the inside is smooth for a moris taper spur. The spur I have runs from 19/32" to 11/16".

The link in post #5 tells you all you need to know, just measure the opening at the end of the spindle and go from there.

IIRC, the Craftsman lathes were 3/4-16 threads and #1 MT.
