Cottonwood?

I tore a couple of pallets apart today, not what I expected.

I am inclined to think I have some Cottonwood on my hands and would like someone elses opinion.

If it is cottonwood, is it good for anything in particular?

If I get this correct, there are some photos. I would also note the picture of the nail is one of many in the pallets. These nails are extremely difficult to pull from the wood, in fact I was unable to get some of them out of the larger pieces.

gives you an idea of the grain, the next one should be in normal sunlight.

These show the end grain, one cut and one sanded.

and of course, the nail.

Still learning, and part is learning more about woods.

Thanks folks.

this is definitely oak, not even close to cottonwood. See my site if you'd like comparisons
