Considering staining Hickory

As some of you may know, Im currently in process of remodeling a house, and as part of that, the kitchen.

The cabinets being installed are Hickory. The door style is Mission with oak bead board panels.

Im considering staining the cabinets. Im finding mixed information as far as whether or not Hickory is prone to blotches when staining, and if so, what to do about it.

Just use a wood conditioner to be safe?

Ive done a few tests on cut offs, and they seem to take stain well, but I dont want to find out the hard way, on the completed cabinets.

Hickory will darken over time, maybe not enough to suit you, but keep that in mind.

Hickory can have so much variablity in color grain pattern, I wouldn't think blotching would be a big issue.
