Can you make wood bowls without using the turning machine? If there is I would like to know. I don't have a turning machine but I am interested in making wooden bowls.

Wood bowls can be made using handheld carving tools.

Also power carving tools.

Staved bowls (like a whiskey barrel) are another option.

Welcome to the forum. Please don't take this the wrong way. You sound like you don't have a lot of knowledge in woodworking. I may be wrong however an intro thread would have been nice telling us a little about yourself where your from, tools you have, experience etc.

With that said the turning machine is a Lathe. They have other ways to make bowls as many have already listed but I'm not sure about what tools you have or what other ways mentioned you understand or can do. So lets get a little more info from you so we maybe can help you out.

I think a lathe is the most fun tool in woodworking. If you keep an eye on craigslist you should be able to get one without breaking the bank that would work for you.
