Can anyone help me identify this wood?

Hi, i came across this in a shop today and wish id asked now as it didnt say what it was.

Anyway can anyone tell me what you think this is? Im thinking its beech but the grain isnt like what I see on many other beech boards, is it quartersawn perhaps?

Cherry was my first guess too, but I was also thinking possibly a variety of mahogany. More pics might be helpful....

That is a Wusthoff "Trident" knife box. Google Wusthoff for cust. info. They might be able to help you.

Seems like it is high quality beech wood. I've not seen beech like that before. Do you this it would be steamed variety? I guess european too as im in the uk.

It looks like Honduras Mahogany to me.

I immediately though Teak, but it could be Mahogany. Also reminds me of Spanish Cedar but I understand that it can be a type of Mahogany also.

Im not 100% sure this is the same model as I saw.
