Building a fancy Outdoor table

Hi all,

i`m new here and was after some advise on a project i`m thinking of undertaking.

I am looking to build an out door table probably around 6 feet in length so sizable, with about a 2" thick top. I already have all the wood as it was left over from an earlier project.

I would also like to do something different for the top and have been looking at Marquetry and as i`m an avid reader I was going to do either some small quotes from some of the books iv read or try and do some basic images from them.

There's a few things mainly how does the veneer stand up to weather? obviously I will need to seal it with something as im in the UK and its very changeable. Also are there any other options I thought about carving the top of the table but this probably isnt very forgiving of mistakes.

I have some woodwork experience last year I built a pergola (not from a kit either) I realise I may have bitten off more than I can chew but, im not afraid to have a go and make mistakes trying.

any tips, criticisms, or general point i`d be interested in hearing.

Thanks in advance

Unless you can totally encase the table top in something like epoxy, I would not use any type of veneer in an outdoor table.

Tool Agnostic likes this.
