Question Building a bookcase. HELP

I just purchased a Latin version of Homers illiad published in 1760, and I need to build an enclosed bookcase for this book. I need to know which type of wood would be best for moisture control etc. I'm thinking cedar would be a good choice but I'm just not sure. Any help would be appreciated.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

I think you're taking the wrong approach to dehumidifying. Wood will draw some moisture out of the available air, but not to the point of becoming a dehumidifier. You could, use just about any species, and just use in the box some silica gel desiccant (sodium silicate granular). It's the same stuff you see in the little packets stuffed in electronics and camera gear, etc.

You could likely design the box so nothing shows. That would provide the best method for moisture control. There are variants to the packets.

Thank you for your reply. I had planned on using those packets as well. Ive decided on Cedar and have already built the box.
