Any Nashvillians out there know where you can find some Briar local? I want to try my hand at carving a pipe and I've seen on a lot of sites that Briar is the way to go.
Probably the best lumber source in the Nashville area is Middle Tennessee Lumber - http://www.midtenlumber.com/?page=Home, but I doubt that is something they will stock. It would be worth a call, just to see.
It may also be something that Woodcraft in Franklin can special order.
audiokat, can you share with us the links you have found for buying briar online? I am interested in giving it a try too and there is nowhere local that I have found.
nevermind, I figured out what keyword to use in Google..."briar block"...it gives a bunch of sites which sell it.
I would imagine there is a little community of pipe makers in the area. You may want to ask around smoke shops and cigar bars to see if they can get you in contact with others who share your potential hobby.
