Best finish for outdoor cedar wood sign?
Hi Guys,
I'm making an outdoor sign out of very light color cedar wood. It will hang year 'round outside a house on Lake Almanor, California.
I prefer to keep the natural color of the wood, rather than stain it another color. I also don't want a shiny gloss finish either.
What do you guys recommend for as a finish on the wood that will accentuate the natural wood color as well as provide some weather proofing? I've read about Tung oil and this sounds promising.
Also, whatever you recommend, please let me know about how often I will need to reapply or refinish/touch-up the cedar to maintain a finish.
thanks, guys!

PS, I've uploaded an image of the slab of cedar I'm using. Have a look!

There are a number of fence sealers that are clear you could use. I've had good luck with Thompson water seal.
One of the best finishes for cedar that I have encountered is Heritage Natural Finish. It is not cheap ($85/gallon) but looks beautiful and wipes or brushes on. Re-application would depend on the climate and weather you experience, but usually every 2 years. https://www.heritagenaturalfinishes.com

Thanks, guys!
In the interim, I've learned about Waterlox products too, which sound promising.

By the way, Mark, I had a look at your portfolio. WOW! Your woodworking is gorgeous! I especially love your joinery details, particularly from the photo "base cabinet - joinery detail". Too coo!
