Hi guys. A friend of mine is about to get his first set of chisels. He's got a starter lathe but no chisels. They will be I today's post. I live on the other side of the planet so can give no lessons.
If you have any good tutorial video links please post them here. The chisels are second hand and are bring sharpened first. Some of the basic topics that come to mind are
Roughing
Beading
Sharpening
Thanks guys, all my saved youtube ones are for advanced stuff as I started off with a DVD by Richard Raffin.

This one looks like it may be good, how to use a roughing gouge.

well I honestly have no idea if they were good videos or not because I don't know the first thing about turning other than the sharp pointy part of the tool goes towards the wood
. But I watched them and as soon as I get the tools I will let you know
. Btw sign in on messenger

If Dave Paine is about I'm sure he could chip in with some good ones. He has steered me and many others to excellent resources.

Lots of videos on YouTube.
Forum member John Lucas has a series. This is John's YouTube channel. I would start with these.

Bob Hamilton has a series, all intended to be instructional like John's. This is Bob's YouTube channel.

An excellent series on sharpening is Gary Gardner. This is episode 1 of 6. All worth watching. You can get to the rest from this one.

You will need to spend some money on sharpening gear.
Mike Peace's video on different ways to chuck wood on a lathe. Very well done. Almost 1 1/2hr but worth watching.

Carl Jacobson's YouTube channel. Various turning topics/projects

More than enough to start with. Only scratching the surface.
