australian pine, Getting the bark off?

Does anyone know if its easier to get bark off of australian pine while its wet or dry? Right now I have a bunch thats dry that I'd like to make some walkng sticks with but I'm having a heck of a time getting it off some limbs. Just wondering if I would have been better off doing it when it was wet or if there are some tricks I don't know about. It seems to come off the larger logs that are 3"+ but on the 3/4 to 2" no so much.

I can't comment on that particular species but most are much more easily stripped when fresh cut in the spring. Are you using a shave horse and draw knife?

I'm using a half round spokeshave and a improvised shave horse, I really need to make a better one. Someone else that I met told me to strip it when it was dry, I'm starting to think that might have been bad information.

I'll have to try and get some more fresh cut australian pine and give it a shot. australian pine is an invasive species here in Florida but it has a hell of a nice grain to it and usually is nice and straight so I'm trying to work with it while preserving the natural grain.
