Anybody ever use cold press veneer glue

I had a small veneer into job and on the recommendation of Dr. Google I elected to use Titebond Cold Press Veneer Glue instead of regular PVA glue. I was veneering plywood with an MDF overlay. I rolled on a thin coat of the glue on the plywood and let it get absorbed, then rolled on more coats until I had a coat about as thick as a thick coat of paint. I tried to make the coat of glue very even. I put the veneer on and pressed it on with my hands. It seemed to immediately cling to the glue as if no clamping was needed. I still clamped the hell out of it, but wondered if there are other ways of using this glue.
