"anthill like" substance on wood

I have a quantity of walnut lumber which has been stored in an unheated shed here in northern Illinois for several years. Recently I removed some of it and found some boards with cone shaped piles of a cream colored substance looking something like an ant hill. About 1/2 to 3/4 inch in dia. and about 1/2 inches high. There are no holes beneath them.
Any idea what these are and what caused them?

Laurence

Look above them (the wood that was stacked on top)...It is powder post beetles, that substance is their frass or waste. I picture would confirm this 100%, but I am already about there in my opinion.

Daren,
Thank you for your reply. The evidence is gone so I cannot, at this time, provide a photo. We will go with your explaination.
