Got A Favorite For The '500'?

I'm favoring Marco Andretti. That would make Dad and Gramps very happy.

Got to see Mario turn some laps live in 1966. He had poll position to start but engine trouble to him out early. Hearing those old Offenhauser engines low roar was really different from what they are running now.

I agree, it would be great, but something always seems to go wrong for the Andretti family and team at the 500. I'll be rooting for him though, I've always been a fan of Mario, Michael and Marco.

If I was a betting man however, I would put money on Penske (either of his top two).

I wouldn't mind seeing Marco or Graham Rahal win for nostalgia sake, but I also wouldn't mind seeing JR Hildebrand redeem himself...that had to have been so frustrating wrecking on the 4th turn last year.

On a side note, Indy racing is starting to read like Formula 1....there's a whole bunch of names I don't recognize and can't pronounce properly....how can you care who wins if you don't know who's racing? Did it ever occur to the organizers of Indy racing that fans wouldn't mind seeing more American drivers and recognized names? (true for this race fan anyway...)

I haven't watched any "Indy" races since the split. Gimme back the road course races and turbochargers.

+2

Tuned in but not really watched. Then the track prostituted itself out to the moonshiners and did away with the one American F1 race, I have given up on the track all together.

A couple of the best races I have ever been to were the last F1 race at Indy, cool crowd, big ole Heineken and Becks cans for $2, Schumacher rolling the competition in that Ferrari.

The second was the last CART race at Mid-Ohio, sat at the end of the strait right into that S curve. That is a cool road coarse, also went to a GT race there when Audi was dominating Panoz, awesome to hear the two different power styles.

Anymore I just do the F1 and GT, Indy lost me as well, but at one point it was fun to watch.

I would like to see Rubens win but I don't think that it is realistic.

What split?

I haven't paid attention to Indy racing since thet outlawed the Novi Turbines. Haven't watched Nascar since they started racing 2 door V8 Luminas.

I've become a racing curmudgon.

Mario Andretti had one of the best quotes: "Show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser". I believe it was after finishing 2nd many years ago.

Go Marco!

I didn't think anyone at a race was actually there to watch the race. Crowd is much more interesting.

I guess I missed the part when Mario gave credit to Vince. But that was the first time I heard it.

My favorite Mario quote was shortly after the split.

On pole day he looked at the 50,000 to 60,000 people in the grand stands and said, "We used to get 250,000..."

You can quote ME, "Thanks, Tony."

Use the right tool for the job.

Tough break for Marco, but I thought the race was pretty entertaining.

I agree, it looks like the Andretti curse continues. Pretty amazing what the Target/Honda team was able to accomplish in a week. No one was even mentioning them after qualifying.

I wasn't sad to to see Franchitti win, he is one of the best ambassadors of racing - and, you get to see lots of pictures of his beautiful wife
