I remember a test by a Geography teacher in middle school that always harped on reading the instructions. One test had instructions that read "Answer the following questions "True" and "False" in that order." Naturally none of us punk kids bothered to read that and the damn test was hard with many low grades and failures. When all was said and done, he read the instructions to us. To this day, (I am 47 now) I always make sure to read the instructions thouroughly.

Okay, the jokes on me because I started reading the post, got impatient and skipped down to the end which made no sense, so I had to go back and read everything from start to finish. I guess I'm one of those people that would have been standing, sitting, squatting and whistling. I'm such a dolt.

"The Introduction - A paragraph at the beginning states to read all INSTRUCTIONS before taking the test."

Did the opening instructions at any place say to read all of the QUESTIONS before taking the test?

As listed in the original post, #20 is a question and not an instruction, therefore it was not required to be read first.

"The questions

George - A paragraph at the beginning states to read all instructions before taking the test. They were to see if there are any more instructions. The last question/instruction #20, states DO NOT RESPOND TO #1, #5, #10, #15."

There is this combination of words -question/instruction. Seems like there's an inference of an instruction.

This "The questions

#1 - If you are a male, whistle. If you are a female clap your hands"

would have to read "questions/insructions" if the No. 20 is to read questions/instructions. Otherwise the instructor would legally have no grounds to give a bad grade. Otherwise it is just a trick test provided by the instructor for his own amusement.

Actually this story about the supposed test has been around a long time. There is now even a discussion about it on the internet.

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS/QUESTIONS FIRST
