Years ago, I knew a fairly wealthy guy who would stake nearly anybody ten grand to start a business. He had a standard management deal with the person and provisions for division of profits, ability to buy his share of the stock, etc. 90 percent of these ventures fizzled. But those other ten percent made the guy a millionaire many times over. He had this strange way of evaluating the risk based on the proposed partner's family history. I got paid to look up the person and their family. One venture ended up owning a half dozen car dealerships up and down the mid Atlantic. That notice reminded me of his way of dealing.
