Spalted Maple & Walnut Box

I finished a new box project last week utilizing some spalted maple that I found in my brother's woodpile a few weeks back. I used it in the top of a walnut box when using my new template for miniature box joints that I bought to add to my Porter Cable 4212 dovetail jig.

Anyway, I thought I would post this newly finished box just in case anyone might be interested in seeing how I used this wood in the box. As I said, the box body itself was made from walnut. I also put this box up for sale on my new developing store on Etsy.

This was a fun project but I got a little frustrated with the new miniature box jig in that you had to use it a little differently than what I was used to. While using the other two templates that came with my 4212, the methods are not the same. I got through it though.

Dave, this is a great looking box!! I saw you'd posted it on LJ and hoped you'd do the same here. The box joint looks great and you've got the hinges down pat now! It really changes the look so much from the prior ones. You've got some beautiful work there, my friend, best of luck in selling them!

Dave, I've taken the liberty of posting a few of your pics of the box here for all to see so they don't have to go to your site to view them. That maple is beautiful.

Spalted Maple & Walnut Box

OOOooooppps!!

I intended to include a picture with my original post but didn't even realize I hadn't done it. Thanks Taylormade! Guess I'm getting a little more senile than I thought (I might want to pay a little more attention to those machines around the shop....'Ya think?)

That's very pretty. Nice wood choice. Nice contrast with that spalted.

When it's rustic......it's rustic

That's a beautiful box. That is some great spalt on the top. The finger joints look perfect.
