small boxes

Hi I just made these 2 small boxes. Both are made out of soft maple and mahogany. The smaller box does not open and is just decorative but the larger one does open. I was thinking about mitering the corners but I decided that I liked the contrast with the end grain and the side. For the larger box I cut the top off a little ways down the side because I thought that it would look nice. The finish that I used is butcher block oil and paste wax. I am really happy with how they turned out and they were a lot of fun to make because they were not a huge project and I was able to use really nice wood without it being to expensive. Also today i got 4 feet of red oak 4 feet of maple and 2 feet of black walnut that i think i am going to use to make more boxes as christmas presants and i still have some mahogony left from the wood i got for free in july.

Love it. Keep up the great work.

There is a very fine line between a "hobby" and a "mental illness"

They're certainly nicer than the first boxes I did. Keep it up, you're off to a fine start.

Nice looking boxes. It takes practice to make a decent box. Great job.

Wood boxes are wonderful presents and can be stained in a variety of ways to match the decor. Nice piece of work.
