Learning to make a bowl back mandolin pt.3

I started this project last year but other things got in the way, but I finally cleaned off the work bench and started it back up again. In one way, I like experimenting with these kinds of things and Iím not afraid to fail (luckily) so Iíll be starting over again but for now, this is where Iím at. Which is pretty close to the beginning. As it should be.

Good video, Paul! Glad to see you're back on this project.

Now I need to add Bowl Back Mandolin to my Luthier bucket list. I've finished one acoustic guitar and started another but I still want to make other instruments so I'll be watching this with interest.

What's next in your process?

David

Well, I'm probably going back to the former style of mold I was using but I think I can make it better this time. I'm pretty sure I can fit the ribs better this time. On this video they were not so good. Part of that was because I had the wrong technique and the other was that my chisels were not sharp enough. But I've made a sharpening station that will be on the bench at all times so I shouldn't have to deal with chisels and planes that are not quite sharp enough anymore.

The sharpening station I made, in case you're interested is at

Cheers,
