First Project - Oak Hutch

So here is the first real project I've tackled myself. I really wish I'd found this site before I started, because it would have turned out much better. Oh well. My wife is happy with it, and I suppose that's what counts.

The details: Oak, with a Minwax Red Oak oil stain and polyurethane. The stain and poly were definately a learning experience, especially since I had to do it over carpet that is only about a year old! Oh, I forgot to pick up some crown molding, so I've still got to attach that next time I make it to the big town.

The hutch.

I designed it to have a large slide-out drawer to double its serving space so my wife can have more people over. Still haven't completely figured out how I'm going to keep it from sliding in when people bump it:

I know there's plenty of mistakes, and would appreciate helpful advice. Next project should turn out better. Eventually, I'd like to redo the doors and drawer faces to fit better, but I don't have any wood left right now...

Thanks for looking!

Looks good to me. Here's the deal with WW you will ALWAYS see the errors when you build something. Normal people will not. Think you did a damn fine job.

Thanks Corbin; people like you are why I put this on here - makes me feel better about myself . I am happy with it, especially for limited tools and experience. Didn't mean to come off too disappointed.

Looks beautiful to me. Wish you had pictures of the build so I could get ideas of how you did it all. Like most projects, you see the faults. Walk around and look at things you didnt build, like your kitchen cabinets. You will see all sorts of errors that you never noticed before because you werent looking for them. Same with your stuff - people will never notice the little things that arent right - they will notice the beautiful piece that you built!!! I look forward to being able to build something as nice as this one day.
