Aquarium Stand w/Tank now (4/30/10)

My second piece of furniture, a stand for my daughter's 10 gallon aquarium. She designed the front design. It was supposed to be more contrasting, but I didn't realize how close the woods would be in color when stained (lesson learned which is what this is all about anyway).

Mostly red oak with maple highlights. Whole thing is done in a maple stain and several coats of satin finish.

Legs look like solid pieces, but really two pieces joined with a locking miter:

Miters before gluing.

Glue up shots:

Fish door handles!

Better shot of door details.

I really enjoyed this build. I probably wound up buying twice the wood needed just because I messed up so many things, but its not the end result as much as the process for me anyway.

Looks good, nicely done. I was looking for the aquarium. Does it go on top?

Great looking stand and you put in some really nice details! Don't forget to include a picture with the aquarium all set up. What kind of fish is she wanting to put in?

That is a very nice looking project. Those woods do match quite closely. I like your use of lock miters. The legs look great and save a lot of wood.

Had to wait for a bit for the plants, but finally got the tank setup on the stand. Several people seemed interested, so here are a couple of pics.

Its a brand new tank and I didn't have access to any established filter media, so I'll get some fish once the ammonia levels have subsided and the tank has stabilized. With that many plants, shouldn't take long.
