What to look for?

Father in law have me an old delta planer. He's never used it, bought it years ago he says. What do I need to check safety wise before I start it up?

It'd be useful for us to know the model number, then someone could offer specific suggestions.

right, I'm sorry. I realized that as soon as I posted it and looked it up.

Delta Model 22-540
12" by 5.9"
says it was made in '95

also there isn't any infeed or outfeed table like I was used to in woodshop in high school lol, or what you see on newer models. How hard is it to build one? Or are they expensive to order the replacements?
