Stain/discoloration on tablesaw top
1 Attachment(s)
Good evening! I have a Kobalt jobsite table saw with an aluminum top. I had the saw in my garage and a friend set a beverage on it as a table - my fault for not putting the saw more out of the way. I didn't catch it in time and now it has this ugly stain on it. I don't know if it's corrosion or what. I have tried soap and water, WD40, and a rust reformer spray to remove it, all to no avail. I am reluctant to use sandpaper because I don't want to scrape up whatever the finish is on the aluminium is. Let me know what it is (stain or corrosion) and how to best remove it if anyone knows. Thank you all.

That's why I take a hardline stance against any drinks in my shop. I don't care who chooses to be offended by that - no drinks or food, period.

What was the drink, i.e. did it have sugar or alcohol on the outside?

The stain really doesn't matter. It won't be the last and all that is really important is the top is smooth.

To polish it out, purchase a cheap HF orbital sander that is hook and loop for that purpose, machinery tops. Cut a automotive scotchbrite pad and put it on the sander. Then polish the entire top using paste wax. It won't take the spot off on the first try but over time it will and at the same time make the top slicker than snot.

Yes it would’ve had sugar or alcohol. Mostly likely beer, maybe soda. And I wish I had a separate shop. Unfortunately right now my garage is multi-use for now until I can make more room.
