Someone Please Help! Jointer Issue!!!

Hello All - First post with my new account, for some reason I wasn't able to get into my old account . So I purchased a jointer and bandsaw from a local guy on craiglist this past friday, everything is great with the bandsaw but I just ran into a major problem with the jointer. The guy assured me that the jointer was one phase which was confirmed by the nameplate on the side of the jointer. I just took the panels off to begin the process of detaching the base from the wings so I can get this monster moved and noticed that the motor says that it is three phased...Is there a way that the jointer is running 1 phase even though the motor says three phase??? I would really like to get this sorted out before I bring this 500+ LB monster down to my basement shop....Any help would be truly appreciated.

Looks like somebody replaced the original single phase motor with a three phase motor, despite what the name plate says on the outside of the jointer. No, to my knowledge you can't run it on single phase.

I realize what the plate says, but I'd look/try to remember where it was hooked up at. A residential house or a business. I can't explain how the tag got on the motor but most homes don't have 3 phase available. Unless/maybe he was running a phase converter. That will run off 220 volts single phase and will run your 3 phase equipment.

If its 3 phase it won't run off single phase.

Why not start by looking at the power cord plug? I'm not really familiar with 3 phase setups, but IIRC, the plug/receptacle configuration is different (incompatible) with single phase plugs, for obvious reasons.
