Should I go to Grizzly's tent sale?

Me and 2 buddies are planning on taking a ride up to Grizzly in Muncy, PA this fall. It's a 4 1/2 hour ride, so we're car-pooling up with the 3 of us and a trailer. They're having their tent sale in September and figured we'd head out that morning, getting there a bit before noon.

The plan is to buy at least 2 table saws, a jointer and probably some other large machines, tools and misc stuff while we're there. Saving the $450+ shipping alone justifies the gas, etc and we all really want to check the place out anyway. It would be awesome to find some scratch and dent deals, but I guess what I'm wondering:
  1. Is it worth going up during the tent sale otherwise?
  2. Are there any deals on regular products?
  3. Can you still purchase from the showroom that day and take it home with you?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

like any other sale, get there early

I've heard too many tales of ...I just missed it....dang.

The answer to your question will only be as detailed and specific as the question is detailed and specific. Good questions also include a sketch or a photo that illustrates your issue. (:< D)

Getting there around noon is way to late for the scratch & dent sale in my opinion... I went to the one in Springfield Mo. a couple of years ago and got there at 9 am and a lot of the scratch & dent thing were already gone......

It's extremely worth it, its like Christmas in a tent. I agree with Kansas though, 12 is way, way too late to show up for all the good stuff. Fantastic deals though, there's some things they practically give away. I'm still kicking myself for not picking up some of the electric motors they had going for $20 when they had the sale in springfield

I need cheaper hobby

Thanks for the comments so far. That's kindof what I was worried about. I'm not willing to camp out or leave at 3am, so I guess that I'll accept not being able to get the best deals.

Kansas Gary - do you know if they were still selling out of normal stock that day too?

When they were in Memphis, I checked out the machinery and things that were going to be in their tent sale, some of the things were returns because of defects, missing parts and over stock. I passed on the sale for fear of buying something that was not up to par.

Right now they got free shipping on most everything as well as some stuff on sale. I got the 14" Grizz anniversary tablesaw for $545 delivered.

Good reason for a day trip with the guys, though.

Maybe there's some specific items with free shipping. None of the machines we're looking at are marked free shipping. Maybe I'm missing something.

That actually brings me to a good question. I have a 7x18' box trailer, but it's only 6' 6" at the door. I loaded my bandsaw in it on a hand truck just fine. I fork lifted the tablesaw into it, but could only drop it in the very back because of the ramp door opening height. I wonder if their loaders will be able to get these machines up into the trailer?

My Bad, I got the anniversary bandsaw. Wonder how come bandsaws are free shipping, but not tablesaws and the other stuff.

Leave early and have a good time with the guys. They'll have a forklift or two there to help load.

HJ

Gotta Proofread a little better.

No problem. I figured 14" meant bandsaw. I think they sell a 14" tablesaw, but I don't think many small shops or hobby ww's buy those :)

I emailed Grizzly about loading and regular warehouse purchases. We'll see what they have to say....

Remember, unless you get a demo or floor model - everything will be in boxes. Some are very heavy boxes, but they can be stacked, loaded, and moved easily.

Take some straps just in case. Guy that gets the best deal buys dinner on the way home!

Abby at Grizzly emailed me back, suggesting that it would be a great day to come up, even if we shop out of the retail store. She even offered to research the specific products to check if they're able to load in the trailer for me.

Grizzly people are pretty great to deal with...

Looks like we're heading to the tent sale! :)

Grizzly support has always been 100% fantastic for me. For what it's worth as well, when I went to the the one in Springfield they had plenty of forklifts and the like helping people load up trailer and pickups, so I'd be surprised if they couldn't help you load something.

Also, another guy brought up an interesting point; all the merch at the tent sale is scratch and dent returned stuff. Most still works, but be prepared to have to deal with a scratch in the paint or needing to replace a missing pulley.

Also, as I found out after the tent sale ended, all the non-tent stuff in the show room is 10% off as well

Not sure if any of us will end up with any of the tent sale stuff. The 10% off would be an awesome bonus, saving us hundreds of dollars combined on top of shipping. From what I understand, they have a lot of vendor displays and things like that too, so I'm looking forward to it even besides the money.

I'm not trying to talk you out of the tent sale stuff by any means. I should also add that some of the stuff I saw was "this $1500 saw is missing a $10 dollar pulley and the pain is damaged, so take it for $400". Worth a look by all means
