Sears Craftsman Radial Arm Saw

Looking for a new front plate (which holds the on/off switch on the driving rail) as the whole piece is cracked.

Photos would help. It would also help to know the model number of the Craftsman radial arm saw.

I wonder whether you could make a replacement from wood, maybe a thin scrap of plywood? Does it do more than serve as a holder for the switch?

Radial arm saws are not common. Finding used spare parts for radial arm saws may be difficult.

Many Craftsman radial arm saws have a $100 rebate attached if you send in parts that make them unusable, due to a safety recall. I found this link, but I can't tell if it is the "official" one. The information seems correct:

Not so ....

Ebay has all kinds of Craftsman Radial arm saw switch plates. Pick the one that looks like yours:

FWIW, I love all my 4 Craftsman RASs, I just don't have room for any more .....

Let's try these photos ...

Unfortunately .... you don't show the name plate and any identifying information in these photos ...either.

JB Plastic Bonder comes in black or tan. It is a double syringe 2 part urethane. I have yet to have a plastic failure after repairing many items. Stocked by Walmart. Do not confuse with their other plastic repair products. Plastic Bonder. You can also build up in the back for extra strength. At least it will get you back in business while looking for a new one. Slightly roughen surfaces and clean with solvent like alcohol. Acetone dissolves many plastics.
Craigs list is always loaded with Craftsman radials and sometimes they are practically giving them away. I would take the $100 deal from Emerson and put it toward a table saw. They have their fans but my Cman RAS was nothing but grief.

I love my Craftsman RAS, I've had it for 42 years and it still is running as good as ever. I do all my crosscuts on it, but all rips on the table saw.

I've been pushing this simple concept for the past 40+ years. When you understand how a machine works best, it will actually "tell/show" you, is when you will get the best and safest results.

Let me see if I can find more info for you, other than what you can see from the photo.

If you can't find one the one you have could be repaired. From the back side that doesn't show you could roughen the plastic around the missing chip and glue a piece of fiberglass cloth with some epoxy for plastic. Then once dry turn it over and fill the void with the epoxy and shape and sand smooth. Then the whole piece could be painted with black paint for plastic and it could look like a brand new part unless you removed it and looked at the back.

If it is no more than a flat piece, make a new plate. If you can do woodworking, you can do plastic.
