That should work. I like to use Prepsol that comes in a spray can and is used in auto body to remove grease and oils before painting. It is available at the local auto paint supply. I just like having it around whether to prep for painting, or a use like yours. No mess clean up makes it a winner for me. (Mineral spirits will work too if you have it on hand.)

Dupont Prepsol Solvent is very good to remove wax and oils but for what you are doing mineral spirits will work. If you can keep it off the paint lacquer thinner would do even better.

Why do you want to remove the wax? I can't get enough on my equipment. I've got an old planer someone must have waxed it more than run it. It won't rust even if rained on and it has been.

"Why do you want to remove the wax?"

That is also the first thought that came to my mind.
