Quick loading finishing sander?

Has anyone tired or own the Bosch 1297DK?
It seems like a cheaper alternative to ROS sanding disc sticker shock.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

I have both ROS's and finishing sanders, and use the ROS almost entirely. I could get along without a finishing sander. I'm not trying to talk you out of one, but you can get a ROS for about the same money.

I own both a ROS and a finish sander and both get used, the finish sander can get in corners that the ROS can't, just depends on what I doing as to the unit called in to play.

I don’t doubt that an ROS can replace a finishing sander. It’s just the cost and the availability of the discs scares me. I was doing some research and the bosch unit came up. It seems like a good idea.

I need to be able to sand into corners. I plan on making a lot of acoustic panels for a home studio. I searched google for quick loading sandpaper and found www.gritlock.com. It looks like a better solution than the bosch sander, however, I don't have a makita sander.

Does it look like something worth buying a sander for?

Ditto. I own several of both and use each as needed for the application.
One thing you can do is take several (3) sheets of paper, roll the ends with a pencil and install all 3 at the same time...nice and tight. When the first sheet wears out, simply tear it off to expose the next sheet.
By rolling the ends first, I can get a sheet installed in 30 seconds or less.
Expensive add-on for an inexpensive tool, IMO.

won't the other sheets of paper wear the backsides of the unused paper?

I was able to score an old makita sander from a friend. Apparently the makita sander the gritlock clamp is available for is a bit of a workhorse.

I decided to bite the bullet and buy a gritlock. I figured its half the price of the bosch sander and if worse comes to worse, I'll return the sander back to my friend with a new pad.

Here's hoping for the best.
