Old bandsaw motor question

This is my first post here and hope to get some advice. I bought an older (1980's) 14" Rockwell Delta bandsaw a few years ago at a yard sale. I used it several times in light duty and it worked well. But, I haven't started it until I tried recently. To my surprise it only hummed when I flipped the switch. The motor would not run. I suspected a bad start capacitor. I got a "near" replacement and tried it, still nothing but a hum.
The motor is a 1/3 hp, SP, model 62-113. What would cause the motor to run fine and then only try to start with a hum?
Thank you for any advice. Hopefully I won't have to get a replacement motor.

Will it start if you spin the pulley by hand? It could be the motor is shot if the capacitor is new and the correct mfd. It may have a centrifugal start circuit and the contacts are dirty. A trip to a motor repair shop, appliance repair or vacuum cleaner service may tell you what's up. bill

The answer to your question will only be as detailed and specific as the question is detailed and specific. Good questions also include a sketch or a photo that illustrates your issue. (:< D)

Hey Bill,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, the pully turns easily when I pull on the belt... Must be something stuck such as contacts inside. I'll take it down to a shop soon for a look.
Regards, Doug.
