My first Dado set

Hey all, I'm new to woodworking. I've spent the passed year building my basement shop and have finally saved enough to buy a Delta 5000 series 53" right rip capacity table saw. I've never used Dado blades before, but I'm sure I'll be using them a good bit. Can someone recommend a decent set that doesn't cost a whole lot? Also, does someone know where I can buy the inlay for a Dado set for my table saw?

the dado throat plate is 36-502

this is a recent thread on the subject
http://www.woodworkingtalk.com/f12/w...o-blade-91618/

the summary was Freud SD208 or the Dewalt DW7670. I have the former, some said the latter made a cleaner base.

Be sure it's carbide tipped. 6" or 8" should be fine in your saw. 6" is generally easier to spin, but 8" offers deeper cut and higher tip speed. There are some great 8" sets that don't offer a 6" version. The worthwhile sets tend to start @ ~ $85, and go up from there. You're likely to waste your money if you spend much less.

The best bang for the buck that I know of is the Delta/DeWalt 7670 set....Craftsman offers a version of the same set for $100. Freud, new Irwin "Marples", CMT, and Oshlun sets are all worthy at near $100 too, but IME the 7670 sets cuts better....it also has a great carrying case. The best set I've used to date is the Infinity Dadonator....that'll put you closer to $200.

I'd avoid the Avanti set at HD, Mibro, HF, Vermont American, the older Irwin, the Oldham sets, or other off names.

As of yet, the only blades and router bits I buy are Freud. I just figured companies can't make the best of everything. I would like to try and spend 100 bucks or less until I'm very proficient. I already bought a $1200 table saw and I don't want my wife to kill me. I think an 8" set will be better, I'm sure my saw won't have a problem spinning it. Maybe I'll pickup the Freud set. Their products haven't really let me down before. Do dado sets last a long time?
