My dusty sander
Years ago, I inherited a Bosch 3107DVS orbital sander from my father. It's done well by me, but yesterday it died. Replacing it with something nearly identical could cost a couple hundred dollars, and I think that the ROS20VSC palm sander design might be more suited for my needs, and only sets me back $59. So that's what I'm getting.
When I used my dad's sander, although it had a dust collection bag attached, it seemed like it only collected about 5% of the dust. The lion's share wound up in the air and around on my work surface. This new sander has a plastic dust collection bin on the back, but also an attachment for a 1.25" hose. My dust collection hoses are 2", so to use this, I'm going to have to buy additional hose to connect it to the system AND an adapter to step it down to 1.25".
My question is: Will it be worth it? Will the suction pull up most of that dust that never made it into the collector bag before? I really don't want to have to go to the bother and expense if it's not going to do any better than just letting the dust collect in the little attached bin. I'm fine emptying it from time to time, but like I said, my experience is that very little dust makes it there.
