measureing device

Good day
I am looking for an electronic device that will measure the total length of material going through my moulder. I want to be able to enter a width and have it keep a running calculation of the square footage. I can't seem to locate a device like that and I am quite sure I'm not the first person to want one.

Does anyone know where to look?

Thanks, Bob

What you are describing should be easy to create with ardrino and a teen electronic maker. The ardrino is a very simple electronic board with many ways of using seniors. Less than $18, it hooks up to many servos and input devices. Your planner would just need a follow wheel that turns when the wood exits the planner with a interrupter wheel that would be calibrated for number of wheel rotations to convert to feet., Some sort of key pad to input your width, then the program would do the calculations with some form of output. Check with a Jr college with electronic classes and you'll find the skills you need. Tom

Use a wheel measure ...

I don't know if you need any electronics for this for your application, but a measuring wheel will keep track of linear feet passed through the machine:

The answer to your question will only be as detailed and specific as the question is detailed and specific. Good questions also include a sketch or a photo that illustrates your issue. (:< D)
