make a panel saw more versatile ?

Does anybody have any tips or advice on how to make a sliding panel saw more versatile? i have recently been "gifted" with one at work along with my new work area. I work in a countertop shop so the odd time i actually could use a panel saw i am finding it more cumbersome than anything it is very awkward ripping things especially 5X12 sheets of laminate as the slider is only 11 feet it is a beautiful saw and i was so excited when i heard i was going to have one for my use but after the first time using it i wanted my unisaw back my boss will be pissed if i say i really dont wanna use it, and use it for a work bench or something so i would really like to adapt and get used to this thing any jigs or anything would be great
