ID my wood

Ok, help me figure out what it is. I bought it at a hardwood store probably 15-18 years ago to use to make a dovetail box. I might remember the type of wood if I heard it. As you can see, there are some broken dovetails. This stuff is insanely dense, hard and heavy. It was so hard that with a brand new dt bit, the tails were breaking, so I ended up tossing the wood in my bin and getting something else. I haven't used any of it since then

Here are 3 pics. The 1st 2 taken in my shop, in a mix of cfl, halogen and regular IC light bulbs. The 3rd is taken outside in early evening sun.
