Going to look at a lathe.

Hey everyone,
I'm going to look at a wood lathe today. The owner said it was a general 14x48. I didn't get the model number. It kinda looks like a harbor freight lathe in the picture. It is $200 and has never been used. Anything I should check for when I goto look at it?

How long has it been sitting? Why wan't it used? If you get the 20% coupon for HF you can get another for not much more. Warranties are only for 90 days, if I recall. I would take someone who is familiar with lathes to take a close look at it. Plus, you want to hear/see it run.
Caution: I had one of the HF lathes and the Reeves drive stuck. AS a result, I'm not a fan of the Reeves drive which is a moveable pulley that changes the drive ratios. Ended up scrapping it and buying a Rikon, which has a five year warranty.
Good luck!

General tools used to be made in Canada. I don't know about more recently. But if it is Canadian made a lot better than HF. There isn't much to go wrong with a lathe if it hasn't been miss-treated.
