First post and boy do I need help!

I have a Bosch 1617 EVS router. I just purchased a new dovetail jig and was working on learning the set up. When I go to the router part, I installed the 1/2" to 8 mm collet adapter. It is a slotted sleeve bushing that goes into the 1/2" collet. I put the dove tail bit into it and tightened the collet, then realized I needed to do something else. I took out the bit but the collet adapter is way down into the router collet and I cannot get it out. I was able to remove the 1/2" removable part of the collet but the adapter is stuck in the fixed part of the router collet.

Has anyone experienced this and what did you do. I'm thinking I am going to have to try to remove that part of the collet/shaft from the router but am not sure how to do that. I tried putting some dry lubricant into where the adapter is stuck and prying with a screw driver but I have been unable to get it to budge.

Thanks in advance if anyone has a good suggested on how to get this out. Also open to suggestions on what I may have done wrong or how to avoid a similar experience in the future.

You should be able to remove the collet from the router and gently tap the adapter out with a drift punch. If you don't have a drift punch take a sixteen penny nail and grind the point off flat. It shouldn't take very much to knock the adapter out.

I'm picturing it stuck somewhere other than where it maybe is. Got a picture??

The tools don't make the craftsman....
