I picked up an older craftsman radial arm drill press yesterday. I did the pencil trick to check runout and while looking at it it looks like the pencil tip is moving oblong. But when I bring it down to mark the wood all you see is one little point. No stray marks or anything that indicates run out. What do y'all think? Are my eyes playing tricks on me?
Here is the DP in question.

Pencil maybe not sharpened evenly? I had a sharpener that would make the point off center

The tools don't make the craftsman....

That could be a possibility. I'll check again. I've been drilling with it all day and everything is how it should be. I've had no complaints. So even if there is a little run out, I'm not gonna worry about it to much

Just checked again and I think it was the combination of a crooked pencil and an off center point. It might be a couple thousands off. Nothing that I'm gonna worry about.
