Bench grinder

Is it possible to convert a standard bench grinder to a wet grinder by adding a simple trough with water?

That would qualify it to be a wet grinder, but with many caveats. The wheel would have to be changed to a wet type stone wheel. The speed would have to be slowed way down. The bearings would likely have to be changed to a sealed type bearing.

Exactly

Sharpening and grinding are completely different processes. These machines sharpen a previously ground edge the wet sharpener turns at 120 RPM. http://www.grizzly.com/catalog/2010/Main/191

This is a grinder which turns at 1750 RPM, while others turn at 3500 RPM at is used to remove larger quantities of stock. http://www.grizzly.com/outlet/6-Benc...e-Wheel/T21990

The answer to your question will only be as detailed and specific as the question is detailed and specific. Good questions also include a sketch or a photo that illustrates your issue. (:< D)
