Auction prices realized

I went to an auction that had used Jet, Delta, Powermatic, Grizzly and other equipment. Here are some of the prices people paid. The price includes a 10% buyers premium (online bidding was 13%). Hopefully this information will help people set expectations for buying and selling used equipment. Overall, the prices seemed reasonably fair though there were a few outliers. The descriptions are from the auction house and are clearly wrong in a few places. I've corrected where I'm sure of the correction but they don't really know machines very well.

Powermatic PM1500 15" Bandsaw - $2090
Craftsman 12" Tilt head Bandsaw $137.50
Jet GHD-20PF Geared head drill press $1760
Powermatic PM2800B drill press (2 of them) $220
Jet JDP17MF drill press $385
Jet JDP-12 drill press $200
Chicago Industrial Tool G-14-12 drill press $110 (really old)
Delta 220V 3PH drill press $137.50 (pretty old)
Walker-Turner Radial drill press $385 (old)
Jet/Arboga 20" Geared DP $825
Jet JBM-5 Mortise Machine (no chisels) $247.50
Grizzly 8" Jointer G1018 $440
Sun Hill Machinery SM-204 8" Jointer (new, still in grease) $302.50
Sun Hill Machinery SM-204 8" Jointer (new, still in box) $275
Powermatic 54A 6" Jointer $550
Jet JJ-6CSDX 6" Jointer $385
Powermatic 209HH-3 20" Planer helical head 3Ph $1650
Jet JWP-208-1 20" planer $990
Jet JWP-208HH 20" planer helical head $1760
Powermatic 15S 15" Planer $990
Grizzly G1021 15" planer $357.50
Delta 22-101 15" planer $247.50 (pretty old)
Powermatic TS29 sliding arbor table saw $2690
Jet JWS-25X shaper $880
Delta shaper $275 (fairly old)
Delta 34-461 "tilting saw" $880 (this was an older 3HP Unisaw)
Jet 10" Tilting Arbor 3HP 1ph tablesaw $770
Powermatic PM1000 TS 1 1/2 HP $880
Delta 10" TS 3 HP $275 (fairly old, definitely seen better days)
Craftsman 100 RAS 10" $60.50

Lots of clamps, hand tools, vises and so on. All went for fair prices - no screaming deals to be had there.

Edit: there were a couple of guys there bidding on everything. I'm pretty sure they were used tool dealers. Between the two of them, they probably bought half the power tools.

Interesting post - thanks.

Presumably, if dealers were bidding on the stuff, they were buying to resell so the prices should have been pretty good. But, I don't know if there's much money in selling used tools (I don't know anything about that business).

Just googled that Grizzly Jointer that sold for $440 - looks like they are roughly $800-$900 brand-new, it doesn't look like a lot of dealer profit left in that one....

About 10 years ago I went to a tool auction and prices were really whacko. People were bidding up Grizzly products above list price when you factor in the buyer's premium. Maybe they were figuring in shipping. Even Craftsman tools were getting good prices. It looks like sanity has prevaled. In my non-scientific sampling, it looks like the market prices used tools that are in decent shape at 1/3-1/2 of list price. I generally set my limit at 1/3.
