Thinking of picking up an otherwise no-name back so that has the word Hartford etched on to it. About 16" overall length. I live near Hartford so it is of interest to me. Can't find any info on the net of its possible origins. Any ideas? We're etches ever applied for special orders, e.g. For Hartford public schools or public works or something like that?

I doubt that anyone would pay to etch the saws for identification, most of them would probably just carve a name or initials into the handle. Is it possible the "Hartford" etch is part of a larger etching which is now missing, maybe the town where the manufacturer was located. I know Hartford used to have lots of tool manufacturing there.

Here's a link with a listing of American saw manufacturers, you might browse through them and see if any were located in Hartford.
