Does using card scraper in a holder dull the edge quickly?

I've started to use the lee Valley card scraper holder to work on cherry. It works well but I wonder if the edge dulls quickly because of heat build up? Would appreciate experience and advice. Thanks. Fred

Unless you're talking really high temps no, the extra heat from being able to use the card scraper for longer periods of time because you're using the holder rather than your fingers shouldn't cause an issue. Rolling too much or too little of a burr would cause a lot more issue than the heat would. My experience (limited as it is) is you're more than likely rolling too much of a burr and it's breaking off quicker than it should if you're running into issues of longevity.
