"Dating" a plane

Ok guys, my latest addiction arrived in pretty decent shape. It's a Stanley #3, and is a sweet plane. Cleaning, sharpening, and tuning didn't take long at all.

I'd like to figure out how old it is. The lever cap has the kidney shape and Stanley with a red background, but no patent # on the back. The blade has Stanley stamped on it, but no date code. The only remarkable thing about the plane is the knob and tote are painted black. The paint appears to be original.

Any date clues to look for?

Timetestedtools has various plane dating links in his blog.

I find Hyperkitten easiest to use, although in some cases may not be the most accurate.

I like the Mega chart the best. Its takes a little longer, but it's the most in depth.
