Hello friend - Thought it best to reply privately to your success regarding "cutting to equal length...". I'm very happy to read you survived your ordeal and that you have learned from it. What happened to you is exactly what I feared in my 1st post and because different words can mean different things for different folks, I got confused in the string and ruffled your feathers with a later post. I take responsibility for ruffling your feathers. As for terminology, take the word soda. I was born in Canada where the word soda meant like a digestive drink. We always ordered tonic in Canada. In New England, tonic means a hair application. In some parts of the country, I would need to use "please give me a pop".
Bottom line is that your on the right track (book - video - new fence - miter gauge - future sled). Congratulations on the big step forward. Good luck and welcome to the exciting world of woodworking!
