Wooden Board Game

So I am looking to make a wooden board game.

My question is where can I find a solid chunk of say mahogany like 2ft x 2ft thickness least 1/2"? Board will roughly ~12in by 20in.

I see Homedepot has plywood that size.

Or would is just be better to get a piece of solid lumber like say a 1x6 8ft long then cut it down then like biscuit joint the pieces together?
