It's been several years since we did a built-in cabinet in a custom room for a customer and I'm not finding the photo's for some reason. Try a Google image search and you'll find a few hundred designs.

Having said that, and being a shooting enthusiast as well as an NRA certified trainer I'd offer these thoughts.

If your customer is set on displaying his collection I'd try and steer him away from it. Just a bad idea today with the blatant disregard thieves have. The smash and grab tactic's can empty a wood safe in seconds. Insured property will get you a check but the reality is the guns end up in the hands of those that would do someone else harm.

It isn't the family / relatives that take them. It's the friend of a friend that tells someone who ends up breaking in. More guns on the street we don't need.

Most of the $600-$1000 steel safe's are either portable, (they pick-up the whole thing and load it in a truck) or they can easily be opened with a pry bar or power tool.

OK, I'm off my soapbox now.

Stay Safe.

You will not open the safe I have with a pry bar.

It was only a $600 safe, but it took a hand truck to get it into the house and two men to position it in the closet.

Of course, just to preclude this I have it lagged bolted to the wall. Does not take much extra time to do this. If you want to try and get it out you will first have to presuade Aristotle that you are an invited guest!

Back on the original subject. A person who has a nice gun collection also probably has an alarm system in his/her house. Armor plate glass, while not making it into a safe, plus a couple of good locks would preclude the smash and grab and run. It would hold long enough for the alarm system to do its job.

I think you should have no hesitation on making your customer what he/she wants
