Two Questions from the "new guy" .
What kind of wood grain is this? and How do I get that mirror finish?

Default Lacquer finish

Not sure of the wood.

Without seeing it live at up close it's only guess. if I knew the price that might help. It is conceivably possible that it is a laminate with an acrylic finish.

Well found a great web site. And perhaps a wood grain we (wife) can both live with.

African Mahogany is definitely the most likely possibility.

Also Hongmu looks good. (I like it best)

Kingwood
This is real nice too.

Or
Morado
I believe this wood comes from the planet Mars on a semi-annual commercial UFO trip to Arizona

So, I'll guess I'll have to find some veneer or laminate.
Where is the best place for that?
A couple of board feet of the exotic wood is probably more then I want to afford...

You all probably know this site already. But, I just found
this is a great and informative website for wood(s)

wood looks like wenge, and the finish looks like the nitro lacquer used on instruments.

It could be any of the higher quality/price woods. There is just not enough detail in the picture to tell.

The finish is obtained by a lot of coats and lots of elbow grease. Maybe used something like Rottenstone as a polish.

Thanks All for you answers. I'll pick up some kinda veneer and tell her that is as close in grain color as it comes in the US.... Done!
Yeah, I figured on doing a lot for micro sanding and polishing, etc. I need to borrow a couple of Santa's Elfs.
